![]() ![]() Like a Check Engine light, an EPC code on a Volkswagen Jetta can be a generic warning or an alert of something more serious. It kicks in when the vehicle's drivetrain computer registers a serious problem and is designed to allow you to get to the dealership without causing any further damage to the system that's having a problem. Since the 1990s, many engine management systems have included what's called a "limp-in mode" or "limp-home mode." Limp-in mode restricts the vehicle's speed and might not let the automatic transmission shift out of second gear. ![]() Can the EPC Warning Light Cause a Loss of Power? The Electronic Power Control (EPC) warning light indicates a problem with your vehicle's throttle system, which could include the accelerator pedal, fuel injection throttle body, traction control, cruise control, or other systems. Incidentally, only after my customer care excallation did Volkswagen agree to pay 100% parts and labor. A fix to a critical sensor located down at the wheel level needs improvement. My expectation is for a recall and vw to fix the warning system. Nevertheless, I feel that the warnings & indicators systems needs a warning indicator for wheel speed sensors!? moreover, this warning system is misleading and creates a potential for death or injury to the unsuspecting motorist that is led to believe that the real problem has nothing to do with the 5-idiot lights illuminated on the dashboard! I find the 5-light event correlation to be deceptive and demanding of doubt. I was not advised of this at the time I left the dealer. Unbeknownst to me I learned that if my air bag warning is illuminated that the air bags are disabled. After customer care involved david maus Volkswagen of orlando (another vw dealer in town?) - the feedback given was that yes, the wheel speed sensor can generate these 5-warnings. From these warnings, napleton's of orlando surmised the problem to be a defective left/rear wheel speed sensor!? I declined any work and took my doubts to Volkswagen customer care. The car was immediately driven to the dealer. Upon starting the car it suddenly began illuminated five (5) warning lights within the instrument cluster: tire pressure monitoring system, anti-slip regulation, automatic brake system malfunction, problem with steering, and airbag and safety belt pretensioner system malfunction.
